What did you learn over the course of the semester? Please give
extensive detail.
I think one concept that
stuck out to me this semester was the communication options in conflict. It was
so fascinating to me that it was something I talked about in my workshop. I saw
how relevant these options were to myself and everyone else. I believe that we
chose the options unintentionally as well. By seeing the table of the concerns
and outcomes of each behavior was helpful as I saw how each approach showed
what behaviors.
Another thing I learned
this semester was to rather resolve conflict with collaboration instead of a
compromise. I used to always think compromising was the way to go since it looked
ideal to have a mutual agreement. It is because collaboration seems to last
longer than a compromise solution. After learning about the difference, I now
strive for more of a collaboration approach.
All in all I learned a lot
over the course of the semester. Many of the concepts were very practical as I applied
them in my life.
Hi Cynthia,
ReplyDeleteI also think that we chose communications in conflict unintentionally. I think there are times we say harsh things in the middle of conflict and we don’t mean them, which is why I think a lot of conflict communication can be unintentional. This is why I personally take the S-TLC approach so I don’t say hurtful things and don’t loose my temper. I am a time out kind of girl. I go in the other room or go for a walk to gather my thoughts and to calm down. I like how you said that you collaborate instead of compromise. I think that is a good way to solve issues. That way you are not compromising your goals, but instead seeing how you both can find common ground without giving up what you believe in. I agree with you that many of the concepts were practical, which made for this class to be thee most interesting and the most educational for me. Great post!
